What Is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback, also known as EEG (electroencephalogram) biofeedback, is a therapeutic intervention that provides immediate feedback from a computer-based program that assesses a client’s brainwave activity.

The program then uses sound or visual signals to reorganize or retrain these brain signals. By responding to this process, clients learn to regulate and improve their brain function and to alleviate symptoms of various neurological and mental health disorders.

Is it for me?

Yes, if you experience emotional distress of any kind, specifically anxiety, panic, insomnia, and depression; Neurofeedback Therapy is geared for you.

Additionally, it can help treat more severe concerns such as seizure conditions, behavior disorders, attention deficits, ongoing developmental delays, acquired brain injuries, birth trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and age-related cognitive loss.

What Type of Equipment Is Used?

The apparatus used is Muse Brain-Sensing Headband™ and corresponding software. It is a sensitive and high-grade qEEG device that picks up your brain signals.

Will it cause any damage or side effects?

No, not at all. The Muse Headband has been tested to meet all regulatory standards and the measurements it takes are harmless. Brain sensing has been used in hospitals and research institutions for over a century to study various aspects of the brain’s function.

What to Expect?

Neurofeedback therapy typically consists of once-a-week sessions for an average of 20 weeks. Some people need fewer sessions, while others require more.

While you are sitting or lying in a chair, the therapist will ask you to wear sensors to your forehead and ears. A computer EEG program will process your brain signals and provide immediate information about various brainwave frequencies. Using a program similar to a video game you will watch the graphics or listen to specific sounds while your brain and central nervous system receive feedback signals from the program.

The program will then begin directing your brainwave activity toward more desirable and controlled patterns. You will get immediate feedback from the program when your brainwave patterns improve. Between sessions, you should be able to notice changes in stress, sleep patterns, or mental clarity. Each session takes approximately 5-7 minutes and it is often used in conjunction with counseling.
